Five Political Catholic Minutes With Greg

NEW YORK (AP) — Cardinal Timothy Dolan says he’s now giving the closing prayer at both the Democratic and Republican conventions.

The New York Roman Catholic leader made the announcement Tuesday through his spokesman.

After GOP presidential candidate Mitt Romney announced last week that Dolan would offer the benediction at this week’s Republican Convention in Tampa, Fla., some Catholic liberals criticized Dolan’s appearance. They said it gave the impression he was endorsing Romney.

Dolan, president of the U.S. bishops’ conference, is also an outspoken critic of President Barack Obama’s mandate that employers provide health insurance that covers birth control.

Dolan said he was participating only to give a prayer.

Separately, Democrats said Tuesday that Sister Simone Campbell of the Catholic nuns’ lobby group NETWORK will give an address at the convention next week.

YEARS AGO THE SAME THING HAPPENED

Cardinal Michael von Faulhaber of Bavaria writes to Adolf Hitler to praise him for concluding the Concordat with the Vatican, something Catholics in Germany have hoped for for decades.

Cardinal Faulhaber says:

“What the old parliament and parties did not accomplish in sixty years, your statesmanlike foresight has achieved in six months.

For Germany’s prestige in East and West and before the whole world this handshake with the Papacy, the greatest moral power in the history of the world, is a feat of immeasurable blessing.”

He ends his letter with: “May God preserve the Reich Chancellor for our people.”

This “greatest moral power in the history of the world” has just concluded a peace treaty with what is arguably the greatest immoral power in the history of the world, and it will hardly raise a peep of protest against all of the incredibly immoral things which the Nazis are doing now or will do in the coming twelve years.

THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN IN THE NEXT 12 YEARS IN AMERICA, OF COURSE, WITH THE POPE’S BLESSINGS…
